Second trimester

Baby's development

  • -You are halfway through pregnancy; baby practises swallowing and produces meconium.
  • -Skin thickens and lanugo covers the body for insulation.

How you might feel

  • -Fetal kicks become more consistent and stronger.
  • -Braxton Hicks tightening may appear after activity or dehydration.

Action plan

  • -Review anatomy scan results and note any follow-up appointments.
  • -Start researching paediatricians and childcare options.
  • -Consider a maternity support belt for added comfort.

Checkups & tests

  • -Mid-pregnancy ultrasound results are reviewed with your provider.
  • -Fundal height measurements begin to track growth.

Watch for

  • -More than four painful contractions in an hour could signal preterm labour.
  • -Leaking fluid or bleeding requires immediate evaluation.

Questions for your provider

  • -Ask about normal patterns of Braxton Hicks versus true contractions.
  • -Discuss how to count fetal movements later in pregnancy.
